World Sleep Day, 2014 (March 11) is a yearly event to raise awareness on the importance of sleep and its effects on the quality of life.
On this day, doctors, researchers, health care workers and civil organizations of many countries join together to increase awareness of sleep disorders: sleepiness and insomnia are slowly becoming endemic diseases. Our own Katalin Várdy Visy, MD, somnologist, will give a lecture on sleep problems.
Many sufferers
Thirty percent of the population of developed countries suffer from some form of sleep disorder. Based on a survey of recent years, the situation in Hungary is even worse.
Prevention is most important
Stress, work overload and an unhealthy life style will not only contribute to shortening life expectancy but cause numerous diseases and, as we observe more and more often, be the cause of tragic traffic accidents.
