Vaginal Ultrasound
Purpose
The vaginal ultrasound examination includes the bladder, the uterus and ovaries as well as the fallopian tubes and its surroundings. Diagnoses, such as ovarian cancer, may be established from the structural changes and blood circulation observed within the organs. The structure and size of the organs, the thickness of the vaginal wall and mucous membrane of the uterus and the fallopian tubes can be examined. Cervical polyps may be diagnosed as well as ovarian cysts.
Advance Preparation
No advance preparation required.
The Procedure
You will have to undress from the waist down and lie down on your back on the examining table. A pillow will be placed under your hips and the examining instrument gently guided into the vagina.
Contraindications
No contraindications.
The examination is not recommended during menstruation, only if absolutely necessary.
You will receive a written report of the results.
