The 8th International EISAM (European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management) Public Sector Conference was held in Edinburgh, UK on September 2-4, 2014.
The conference was a forum for scholarly debate on the challenges facing public services in the 21st century. This included the manner in which public service organizations respond to a recessionary environment, the impact of changes in technology on public services and the reaction of public services to the economic and financial processes between government, private and non-profit organizations.
Dr. Papik represented the Buda Health Center at the conference. His lecture entitled “Case-Based Costing at the Buda Health Center” concerned patient costs and underlying data at the National Center for Spinal Disorders as well as the most significant costs (i.e., doctor’s wages, surgical categories) ensued as a consequence thereof. The main point of his lecture was that though a decision may provoke serious conflicts between medical ethics and economics, regular dialogue with the medical community can bring about decisions not only unquestioned by the medical community but substantiated by business as well.
