Our institute expands with a new building

With the construction of a modern hospital block at the Királyhágó Street premises of Buda Health Center, the new National Center for Spinal Disorders is to be established, which in every respect meets modern-day expectations with its forward-looking solutions.  During the designing process, it was a top priority to create a hospital environment that is reassuring and comforting for employees, patients and visitors as well, and also helps the healing process –  as Paulinyi & Partners, the company responsible for the architectural plans, has stated.

The Királyhágó Street location has a nearly 150-year-old tradition in the field of healing. The two blocks currently designating Buda Health Center, Block A and B, were built in the beginning of World War II and in the 1970s. Based on the plans designed by Paulinyi & Partners, the Institute expands with a new wing that embodies an environmentally conscious and sustainable design approach, in which particular emphasis is placed on creating a quality space for healing. 

As Buda Health Center has a market-leading role in patient care services, the aim of expanding the Institute is to keep and enhance its position, while renovating the current buildings. In addition to improving the current patient care service capacity, the project includes the expansion and development of several professional and patient care service functions also. Architectural plans were designed with the involvement of our Institute’s physicians.  In addition to the central distribution area, a new out-patient care and screening centre, as well as a musculoskeletal rehabilitation unit will be established. Intensive care services will improve, the reception area of the acute out-patient unit will develop, in-patient services, surgical capacities and the diagnostic imaging unit will be expanded. The different departments and the way they are connected to each other were designed around the need to be patient friendly, manageable and economic.

Taking a green concept into account, an environment-friendly mechanical system, passive sustainable methods and sustainable energy consumption will be responsible for running the building. The building’s energy supply and sustainable power management will be delivered by geothermal probe systems, air source heat pumps and solar cells.  Healthcare facilities will be equipped with the most advanced medical instruments and apparatus.

“Our primary aim was to design an iconic building that represents and embodies the underlying hospital function, while implying security and reliability with its neat style and simplicity”, says Dr. Gergely Paulinyi, DLA, founding partner, chairman and chief executive officer of Paulinyi&Partners, and chief architect in charge of the project.

“A complex approach had to be taken into account when designing the building’s façade. During the designing process, we seek solutions that protect interiors from external environmental effects, while letting sufficient natural light penetrate inside, providing natural ventilation and a view for those inside the building”, stresses Gergő Burián, partner and project director of Paulinyi&Partners, and chief architect in charge of the project.

The project is expected to be initiated in the middle of 2022, and the overall duration of the construction will be approximately 2 – 2,5 years. Buda Health Center’s smooth functioning will be maintained throughout construction works.
